MEET THE BANDS
Cold Divide draws its inspiration from the grinding and destructive atmospheres of industrial music, the innovative essence of IDM, the time-honoured arrangements of pop music and fuses the best elements of these with the searing energy of heavy guitars to create the perfect sonic backdrop to Dave’s potent mixture of commanding, catchy and at times snarling vocals.
Cold Divide’s anthemic songs provide a thought provoking soundtrack to life in a world of decay, violence, imbalance and deceit. The band’s thematic emphasis on the underlying sense of unease and uncertainty surrounding society will hopefully resonate with audiences who are routinely witness to the chaotic throes of the modern world.
Bastich is an industrial noise metal act from Melbourne. Formed in 2002 by Duncan Little it began as a solo experimental electronic act, with sounds ranging from ambient to the intense. Inspiration was drawn from the experimental work of artists such as Merzbow, John Zorn, Bill Laswell and Mike Patton, as well as drawing from more orthodox industrial styles. The first recording “Welcome” was released in downloadable form on mp3.com.au. Solo live performance began in 2003 and the project rapidly evolved into an aggressive power noise style, later infused into the next release “Transmute”. From late 2006 live guitar and vocals were included, reflecting the increasing influence of metal/rock on song writing. During this period, the album “Nemesis” was written and recorded where a more structured approach was taken, and in 2009 the first performances as a three piece began featuring Ivan Bullock of Mystral Tide and Ben Smith of Cassandra’s Myth. Now with the release of the demo ‘Decimator’ and moves to a new four piece live line up featuring the talents of Brett Lambden of Sarcophony, Justin Godden of Sizter Thing and Ivan Bullock of Minorarc, the industrial noise metal sound has been well and truly cemented.
Clouds Above Chaos
Gareth Fox and Cristian Verna have been writing electronic music for nearly a decade apiece, and after meeting around 7 years ago have been challenging each others’ perception of music ever since. A collaboration was inevitable, and Clouds Above Chaos was formed mid-2009. Often focusing on the journeys of Terence McKenna’s head affixed to a mechanical spider traversing the barren wasteland left in the wake of the approach to the Singularity, Clouds focus on producing evolving soundscapes interspersed with grinding, industrial beats and utterings from the furthest reaches of human consciousness. The project continues to mutate, integrating live instrumentation alongside realtime synthwork and effects.
